Early Years SEND Parent Advice Support Clinic:

The early years SEND advisory teachers (who make up part of the SEND Early Years Support Service at Havering) are available to give advice and guidance to Havering parents/ carers of children with SEND and who are under the age of 5, through the Early Years SEND Parent Advice Support Clinic. 

They can guide you through the SEND process and answer any specific questions you may have.

The clinic is held on Mondays and Fridays 1pm-4pm via telephone or a TEAMS call and you need to email the team in advance to request a slot.

Havering SEND Early Years Support Service:  ASD Earlybird Programme

The Early Years Support Service offer a 10 week programme run by advisory teachers (licensed by the National Autistic Society) for parents/ carers of children  under the age of 5, who may be on the ASD pathway or already have a diagnosis.

They run regular training courses both online and face to face at the Ingrebourne Children’s Centre so parents/ carers can choose which option suits them best.

Havering SEND Early Years Support Service : Summer Term parent/carer workshops: FREE

Havering SEND Early Years advisory teachers are offering a series of online training and workshops for parents / carers of SEND Early Years children in Havering throughout the Summer Term.

The workshops include :

  • Helping children to emotionally regulate 
  • Promoting positive behaviour strategies for children with autism or social communication needs.
  • Helping your child to develop their fine motor skills
  • Introduction to Autism
  • How to support a child with Down Syndrome in the early years
  • Using visuals to support understanding and communication in the early years
  • Sleep support for children with SEND in early years 
  • An introduction to intimate care and toileting in the early years for children with SEND
  • How to help your child develop communication and play skills in the early years
  • Using sensory circuits to support sensory differences
  • How to prepare a child with SEND in the early years for the transition to school

Stronger Relationships Online Course:

Cost: Free for Havering families with children 0-18 years (offered by SFSC and funded by the London Borough of Havering)

Aimed at: Parents and other adult carers living together or apart.

  • Do you want to get some new ideas to help you be an even better parent?
  • Would you like to reduce the arguments and disagreements in your family and cope better with stress?
  • Would you like to enhance your relationship with your current partner, or improve communication with your ex or the other people helping to raise your children?

Course Structure: 6 online sessions, 6 group discussions and a certificate on completion.  Start dates throughout the year.

Topics covered:   Enhancing parent-child relationships,                                                                                                    Managing stress, anger and emotions,                                                                                                  Strategies to resolve conflict

Aimed at: Parents and carers of primary-aged children with communication and interaction differences.

Dates: various dates in June and July 2026

Venue: Collier Row Children's Centre, 28 Clockhouse Lane, Romford RM5 3QJ

The SEND Communication and Interaction team have arranged another series of workshops for parents and carers of primary aged children in Havering. Advisors from the team will be available to share ideas, resources and knowledge in an informal setting.

Havering Educational Psychology Service - Talking Additional Needs and Psychology (TAP) Parent / Carer Support Group:

This group is aimed at parents/carers in Havering who have a primary or secondary aged child with additional needs in any of these areas:

 

  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional and Behavioural
  • Physical and Sensory

 

This group can provide you with a space to explore new ideas and talk with other parents in similar situations.  The sessions are led by an Educational Psychologist.

There is no charge for this group but places are limited. Groups run throughout the year.

Drop-in sessions for parents/ carers of children & young people who attend Revellers Youth Club 

Deborah Bennett and Theresa Plunger, communication and interaction advisors from Havering SEND Education Support Service, are hosting monthly drop-in sessions for parents/carers of children and young people (11-17 years) who attend the Revellers SEND Youth Club at MyPlace, Harold Hill.

At the sessions parents/ carers can:

  • chat with professionals
  • share ideas an strategies
  • access resources and information
  • get support with communication and interaction differences

Location:  Art Room (upstairs next to Games Room with Revellers Youth Club)

Time:  6:30pm – 8:30pm

SEND Reform Chat & Social followed by Sound Bath activity:

Havering SEND Family Voice invite parents and carers to share their thoughts on “Parents Working in Partnership” to help shape the Havering SEND Reform Plan — and to take part in a FREE “Rest & Reforms” Sound Bath, delivered in partnership with Well Social CIC.

A unique, calming Sound Bath Meditation in a cinema setting, designed to support relaxation, reduce overwhelm, and promote a sense of calm.

Ardleigh Green Family Hub:   9:15am - 10:30am selected Tuesdays:

The Help Hub takes place on the first Tuesday of every month (except August).  It operates as an informal drop-in space to listen to your worries and provide advice to support you and your family. You can be sure of a warm welcome, a hot drink and someone to talk to, so why not pop along to the next Hub and meet the team.

EPEC Parent/ Carer courses:

EPEC (Empowering Parents , Empowering Communities) offer accredited courses for parents and carers which have been designed by the NHS Centre for Parents and Children.  

The EPEC Hub trains local parents to deliver the courses themselves, creating a peer-to-peer environment.

The courses currently delivered by the EPEC Hub include:

  • Parent Group Leader Training
  • Living with Teenagers (for parents/ carers of young people aged 11-16 years)
  • Being a Parent course (for parents/ carers of children aged 2-11 years)

SEND ESS Communication and Interaction Parent Support & Advice Appointments:

The SEND ESS Communication and Interaction Family Support Advisors are available to
listen, talk to and model with parents/carers of Havering children and young people with
communication and interaction differences.

Parents/carers can seek advice, guidance or signposting via a booked 15-minute appointment on specific dates via a Microsoft Teams call or a telephone call.

You may be interested in support with:

• Understanding and sharing different ideas, strategies, or interventions, such as core vocabulary boards, attention bucket, or visual supports.

• Understanding and implementing recommendations in your child or young person’s speech and language report.

• Signposting to relevant services.

Sycamore Trust : Autism Support Service: All ages -  1:1 appointments offered

The Sycamore Trust supports the needs of families, carers and friends of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) including Asperger syndrome.  With Young People’s Services, Adult Services and Family Services, the Sycamore Trust offers a range of support.

The Sycamore Trust are able to offer 1:1 appointments to Havering families who have any specific issues around autism they would like to discuss.  You can email the Service directly to request a 1:1 appointment.
