I am a Young Person

A young person is someone aged between 16 and 25 years.

  • You become a young person on the last Friday in June after you turn 16

  • You stop being a young person when you turn 25

How can we help you?

If you live in Havering and have a special educational need or a disibility, you can have a say in what you would like to happen and how choices are made for your future.

The Havering SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) are here to help you if you're having problems with your education.  We can give you free information, support or advice to help you deal with the problem.  We may also be able to help with health or social care issues if they are related to your education.

What we can and can't do:

We can...

  • listen to you and make sure that people hear and understand your views
  • give you information and options to help you understand what is going on so you can make informed choices
  • liaise with a parent/carer or a trusted adult of your choice on your behalf (if you would prefer us to do this and give your permission)
  • signpost you to other services that can help you

We can't...

  • make decisions for you
  • tell you what to do
  • speak to other people or services about your case without your permission*

* If you tell us something which makes us feel you are not safe, we have a duty to follow this up (whether we have your permission or not) so we may need to speak to the appropriate service to get you the help and support you need.

How do we use and protect your personal details?

When you contact us we will ask for a young person's consent form to be completed via an online link that we can send you.  If you agree to complete the consent form we will record your personal details on our secure database so that we have a record of your case each time you get back in touch with us.

To access specific information, advice and support please look at the drop down menu on the left and click the heading that you would like advice on.
